Stanley’s Christmas Village
There’s something new to do with the kids, in Ottawa, this Christmas season! This weekend, I took my family to the opening of the Stanley’s Olde Maple Lane Farm Christmas Village and we all had a great time.
Upon arrival at the Christmas Village, you are met by a real Elf, who then leads you on a magical horse drawn wagon ride through the colourfully lit woods, to the Elf Outpost. There you are met by more Elves, who escort through the village and share their Christmas songs and games.
My kids especially loved the C.E.O.’s (Chief Elf Officer) Station, where they gather all the local mail for Santa and route it to the proper outpost. You can even bring your letters for Santa to be placed in the appropriate slots. On top of this, there are also other areas to see, such as the Candy Cane Daycare and Herme’s Dental Office.
Owner, Earl Stanley mentioned that they wanted to start off small to gauge interest but they intend to expand the Village each year. It’s really geared towards the kids and mine loved all the Elves and the cool Elf houses. I think it’s such a great idea to have something like this so close to home and judging by the kids reactions to everything, it will be a mainstay on our Holiday To-Do List!
You have to book a space in advance if you want to take the family but it’s totally worth it. You can also bring gently used toys to donate to the Salvation Army. The Christmas Village is open Saturdays and Sundays until December 23rd and you can check out their website for more details.
If you are going to go, just make sure to watch out for that cranky Grinch. We passed his house on the way out of the Village but luckily he stayed inside.
Chris Read is father to two wonderful children, ages 2 & 4. His lovely wife runs an excellent home daycare, so he is well versed in the arts of dodging toys and catching runaway Plasma Cars.
